The Border Watch Online Privacy Policy
This policy sets out how The Border Watch online uses your personal information.
The Border Watch is bound by the National Privacy Principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act. However, The Border Watch is exempt from complying with the Privacy Act in relation to its journalism activities. The Border Watch is committed to complying with the Australian Press Council Privacy Standards for the use of personal information in the course of journalism and supports the Media Alliance Code of Ethics.
The Border Watch may, from time to time, review and update this privacy policy statement to take account of new laws and technology and changes to our operations. What kind of personal information The Border Watch collects online and how it is collected:
The Border Watch collects personal information from a variety of sources, including from members of the public, advertisers, prospective employees, mailing lists, recruitment agencies, contractors and business partners.
In general, the personal information includes (but is not limited to) name, address, contact details, gender, occupation, in some cases membership of professional associations and, where relevant, financial information, including credit card information, banking details and income information.
Personal information you provide: We store the personal information you enter on The Border Watch online or give to The Border Watch in other ways. The Border Watch adheres to the this policy and the Commonwealth Privacy Act. The Border Watch protects the personal information The Border Watch holds from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure by various means including firewalls, pass word access, secure servers and encryption of credit card transactions.
Updating personal information:
The Border Watch endeavours to ensure that the personal information it holds is accurate, complete and up-to-date. You can update your forum membership information via the profile link in the forum. You can discontinue receiving email newsletters by clicking the “Unsubscribe now” link at the bottom of the email. Where personal information is no longer required by The Border Watch, it will be destroyed or de-identified.
Seeking access to the personal information The Border Watch holds about you:
You have the right to seek access the personal information held about you and to advise The Border Watch of any inaccuracy. There are some exceptions to this right set out in the Privacy Act. If you make an access request, The Border Watch will ask you to verify your identity and specify what information you require. The Border Watch may charge a fee to cover the costs of meeting your request.
