Support for anxiety disorders

A program to support people suffering anxiety disorders will be held throughout the South East.

“A Great Step Forward” is run by the Anxiety Disorders Association South East (ADASE), an association formed more than 13 years ago to help anxiety disorder sufferers and their carers with education and self-help management workshops.

The program includes an initial information session, a one-day basic program and a more indepth 10-week program.

It aims to assist people to learn appropriate skills for handling their anxiety disorder or depression.

The first session will be held from 7-10pm on Tuesday, September 30 at the Mount Gambier Hospital conference room, with guest speaker psychologist Louisa Hackett.

Cost for this session is $15, with attendees able to bring one support person at no extra charge.

For bookings contact ADASE on 8723 9400.

While I think this is fantastic, it bothers me that something like this isn’t provided free of charge to those who need it.

I agree with Maybe..it is a super idea, the price tag attached to an education or discussion forum on anxiety could possibly compromise an existing anxiety disorder..especially feeling anxious about the cost…even though it may be seen as beneficial for sufferers to attend.
Also stated, $15.00 is a one session cost…what do following sessions cost? how much for the whole course? does attending only one session indicate a need to attend all?
10 weeks of self-help at what cost to the consumer?
Skills are always useful to have…but they are no guarantee to change an existing disorder the individual has not been able to significantly manage with other, tried, therapies.
