Student endeavour recognised

In recognition of their academic and community achievements, 10 Grant High School students were honoured at a ceremony on Wednesday night at the Civic Centre.

Achieveing either platinum or gold status in the Grant ALIVE scheme, the students received a certificate and voucher and were presented with a commemorative pen by Mount Gambier Mayor Steve Perryman.

Currently in its second year, Grant ALIVE recognises positive and helpful contributions within both the school and community by awarding the student a small number of points.

These points accumulate over the years across the six colour-coded levels until the student reaches the top two levels, gold and platinum.

Grant High School principal Steven Phillips said Grant ALIVE was unique and was an opportunity to say thank you to the students for contributing.

“Most people appreciate being acknowledged for making a positive contribution,” Mr Phillips said.

“This is our way of saying we acknowledge and appreciate the way you go about your learning at Grant High School.”

Students who accumulated 850 points, taking them to gold level, were Mikaela Waters, Meghan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Hodgman and Matt Cram.

Reaching the highest level of platinum status, with 1000 points, were Samantha Iannella, Hannah Pham, Renne Pluckhahn, Alicia Farrell, Kristie Say and Nicole Dmochowska.

Kristie said it was great for the students to be rewarded for participating in extra curricular activities as well as those done in school.

“The program really underlines the school values of respect, trust and commitment,” she said.

Alicia said accumulating points was really quite easy, as she gained points for things such as participating in athletics carnivals, swimming carnivals and wearing correct uniform.

“You just have to be willing to give everything a go,” she said.
