Big week for hockey Redbacks

The Redbacks Hockey Club will be hoping to continue its rich vein of success when it competes in this weekend’s Lower South East Hockey Association grand finals.

Redbacks will contest both the division one men and women’s playoffs, while the club’s under 15 girls will also play in a grand final.

The club’s under 15 boys and both under 13 gender teams all lost their respective preliminary finals last weekend.

The LSEHA conducted its annual player-of-the-year awards function at the Western Tavern last Sunday and whilst Redbacks didn’t make it a clean sweep, it certainly made its presence felt.

Anna Mitchell, won the Division One Player-of-the-Year award for the second year running and will now be aiming to add a premiership medallion to her trophy cabinet.

Mitchell is the sister of Australian Olympian Carmel Bukurski and is the coach of the Redbacks women’s team.

This weekend’s LSEHA grand finals will be played at the Blue Lake Sports Park.
