Car crashed into house

The occupant of a Penola Road house is lucky to have escaped injury after a car crashed through her window on Wednesday night.

Marcia Hobbs and a friend were sitting inside eating their dinner when a Daewoo sedan crashed about a metre through the window.

The car narrowly missed Miss Hobbs and her friend who were sitting either side of the window.

The 54-year-old neighbour of Miss Hobbs was pulling her Daewoo sedan into her driveway when she was struck from behind by a Mitsubishi sedan, driven by a 38-year-old woman from Mount Gambier.

The impact sent the Daewoo sedan into the wall of her neighbour, narrowly missing Miss Hobbs and her friend.

Miss Hobbs said she and her friend were both feeling lucky they had not been struck by the car when she spoke to The Border Watch shortly after the accident.

“I was absolutely horrified,” Miss Hobbs said.

“We just heard a bit of a bang and then the car came through the window.

“The bang sounded so close that we moved back.

“I could only move so far back, so I was lucky; my friend too was lucky that it missed us.”

Penola Road was blocked for about an hour while the vehicle was removed from the house and State Emergency Service (SES) and Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) volunteers stabilised the wall.

Miss Hobbs praised the SES volunteers for their efforts.

“The SES have been great with everything,” she said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi sedan was cautioned by police for driving without due care.

So how is the driver of the Daewoo, was she lucky to have escaped injury??? I do think it would be appropriate to let readers know the state of all involved!
