Unregistered dogs cause concern

Mount Gambier City Council is concerned there are still a large number of unregistered dogs in the city.

Cr Eugene Coscarelli said dog registrations were due to be paid by the end of August.

“An examination of council records suggests that several hundred dogs registered in recent years have not been registered for the next 12 months,” Cr Coscarelli said.

“It is very important that dog owners register their dogs and ensure the registration disk is attached to a suitable collar.

“Council will soon commence a doorknock campaign and anyone detected with an unregistered dog will be required to pay the registration, a late fee and also face the possibility of a substantial on-the-spot fine for keeping an unregistered dog.”

The doorknocking campaign is expected to start in October.

“I would encourage all dog owners to ensure that any dog they have over three months old is registered with council without delay,” Cr Coscarelli said.
