Disability conference coming to region

People who live with a disability will soon have the chance to raise issues which affect them during a conference to be held in Mount Gambier and Millicent.

The Loop, an annual conference for the disabled community, will visit 13 country venues in South Australia from mid October to the end of November.

Julia Farr Association chief executive Robbi Williams said The Loop had in previous years tackled issues such as the dignity of risk in people’s lives, duty of care, conflict resolution and the ways people are stopped from asking for what they want and need.

“This year’s Loop looks at how people can look positively to the future, get things happening and build in the support of other people around them,” Mr Willams said.

“This isn’t just a talk fest, we try to pick themes that people tell us are important and we make notes on the things people say and publish it in a way that helps raise awareness.”

This year’s program will also feature video clips of the personal stories of several South Australians living with disabilities.
