A special meeting of Wattle Range Council will be held at Rymill Hall, Penola, on Tuesday to consider objections to compulsory land acquisitions for the Penola Bypass.

Council chief executive Frank Brennan said 36 submissions had been received on the matter.

Mayor Mark Braes said he expected all councillors to attend the meeting, which will allow people who made submissions to address council.

“I was anxious to make it accessible for people in Penola and for it to be a public meeting so as many people as possible could be part of the process and witness it personally,” he said.

“When there are matters like this of community interest we should have the meeting where the community is.”

Mr Braes said council could decide to formalise opening of the road corridor and acquisition of land or review its position.

“It is totally up to the councillors and council can change its mind,” he said.

The meeting will begin at 5.30pm.
