Great weekend for car lovers

Car lovers from around the South East and Western Victoria will descend on Mount Gambier this weekend for the 30th annual Show ‘n Shine.

Officially the longest continuous running Show ‘n Shine in Australia, the two-day event will be held this weekend at Activ8 sports centre on Penola Road.

South East Street Machines (SESM), which has been running the show since its inception in 1978, will open the doors on Saturday from 11am to 6pm and on Sunday from 9am to 3pm.

SESM president Neil Morrison said the display was looking good this year with lots of interesting cars for people to see.

“I think the highlight of the weekend will definitely be the EFIJY because it’s never been seen at a country show before,” Mr Morrison said.

“There will also be lots of other interesting cars there such as Anthony Whitehead’s 1933 Chrysler Coupe.”

Organisers are estimating between 3000 and 5000 people will visit the display.

“It’s shaping up to be a better show then we have had for the past few years,” Mr Morrison said.

“There’s certainly a lot more entries, so we’re anticipating a full hall.”

As one of the five original members still involved with the club, Mr Morrison said the weekend would be particularly memorable.

“Being the 30th Show ‘n Shine we’ve tried really hard to make it pretty special,” he said.

“I think we’ve achieved that.”
