Idiot drivers frustrate police

Naracoorte police are frustrated that messages about drink driving and speeding are “not getting through” to some members of the community.
Two disturbing incidents near Naracoorte over the weekend prompted renewed calls from police about the dangers of both drink driving and speeding.
During one of the incidents, Naracoorte police detected a 20-year-old Freeling man driving at 127kmh on the Riddoch Highway, near Padthaway, at 4.45pm Sunday.
The driver recorded an alcohol reading of 0.221pc, more than four times the legal limit.
Two female passengers were also in the vehicle at the time of the offence.
The driver was subsequently reported for exceeding the speed limit and PCA.
He was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence and arrangements were made with Freeling police to seize and impound his car.
During an earlier incident on Friday, police received a report of a vehicle “flying” on the Riddoch Highway near Padthaway.
The information from another motorist was that this car had passed his truck on three separate occasions at high speed.
At about 11.50pm, Naracoorte police began a patrol of the highway and a short time later detected the car travelling south at 176kmh.
The driver was found to be an 18-year-old Mount Gambier man.
He was reported for driving at a dangerous speed and for breaching his probationary licence, which only allows him to drive at 100kmh.
The driver had his vehicle impounded at Mount Gambier on Saturday morning and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
A third car was also impounded over the weekend after a 50-year-old Naracoorte man was reported on Saturday evening for driving unlicensed and never having held a licence.
In addition to these offences, Naracoorte Police also attended three separate accidents since the weekend.
At 2.30pm Saturday police were advised of a car colliding with a tree on Forrest Road at Keppoch a few hours earlier.
The occupants of the car were not injured and they later attended the Naracoorte police station where the driver was reported for driving without effective control of the vehicle.
The following morning at 5.50am Sunday, a semi trailer was being driven along the Wimmera Highway, about 10km east of Naracoorte, when it hit a fallen tree laying on the road.
Part of the tree then hit an oncoming vehicle, but no-one was injured in the accident.
A third accident at 7.45am Monday required attendance by police and other emergency services.
A vehicle rolled several times on the Riddoch Highway, 23km north of Naracoorte, after it was side-swiped by another vehicle.
Three people sustained minor injuries and were taken to Naracoorte Hospital for treatment.
A 25-year-old Mount Gambier man was subsequently reported for driving without due care.
