Ferguson claims second top award

Sixteen-year-old Blue Lake Soccer Club protege Callum Ferguson is believed to have created soccer history in the immediate Mount Gambier region.
Ferguson was recently named winner of the BLSC’s under 17 best and fairest award … nothing unusual about that.
But Ferguson was also named winner of the club’s senior A grade best and fairest trophy as well!
Blue Lake club officials are scouring their 51-year-old record books to find if a junior player has ever won two best and fairest awards in the one season, but are confident of declaring Ferguson the first one to do so.
Blue Lake president Jo Lovett said she doubted if it had ever happened before at any soccer club in the region.
“We would love to hear from any other club if it has occurred, but I doubt it,” she said.
“Callum is a wonderful young man and one that has achieved a lot on the soccer pitch in a short space of time.”
Ferguson defeated Kyle Reiner into second place in the A Grade B&F and held off a challenge from Justin McRostie to win the under 17 award.
The Blue Lake senior team was coached this year by Callum’s father Sam, whilst Dante Pepe was in charge of the under 17s.
