Dodgy ecstasy tablets pose danger

South East police have warned of dodgy ecstasy tablets being “highly prevalent” in the region following recent drug seizures.

Acting operations manager for the South East Sgt Andy Stott said the tablets have a “disabled” logo on them and are available in various colours including blue, pink, green, brown and speckled.

Sgt Stott said they are referred to by users as disableds, wheelchairs or retards.

“While police do not condone the use of illegal drugs in any way, we would like to warn potential ecstasy users of the existence of these tablets and the possible overdose effects that ingestion might cause,” he said.

“Medical professionals report that a number of non-fatal overdoses from ingestion of these tablets have occurred, some apparently occurring with the ingestion of one single tablet.

“Police recommend the seeking of immediate medical treatment if any of these tablets are taken.”
