Police impound vehicle for three months

South East Police today successfully applied to the Bordertown Magistrates Court to impound a 1997 Holden Commodore for a period of three months following the conviction of the driver for driving with a prescribed concentration of alcohol.
In a statement, police said the driver had previously been convicted for driving without due care and in a separate incident, misuse of a motor vehicle.
“Police remind members of the community that under the provisions of the Criminal Law (Clamping, Impounding and Forfeiture of Vehicles) Act 2007, an application can be made to a Magistrates Court seeking the impoundment of a vehicle for periods of up to three months, six months or forfeiture to the Crown, depending on the number of previous convictions for prescribed offences,” police said.
“The South East Police are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and will utilise tools available, in this case legislation, to reduce road trauma on our roads and amongst our community.
“South East Criminal Justice Section are currently processing a further 40 applications.”
