Open field for Millicent Greyhoud Cup

Scanning through the fields for tomorrow’s heats of the Millicent Greyhound Cup at Mount Gambier’s Tara Park Raceway quickly caused a headache.

Recent race winners, Tickets Please, Poetic Glory, Reelim Trev, Camo’s Buster, Peppermind Maid, Bodywave and Bailey Hudson all demand respect and attention.

But look closely throughout the heats and there’s plenty more genuine chances.

The Millicent Cup campaign will kick off tomorrow with three heats, which are included on the 10 race Mount Gambier Greyhound Club card, starting at 12.45pm.

Last event for the day is scheduled to start at 3.45pm.

Tickets Please is one starter out of the in-form Robert Halliday kennel at Portland won the recent Country Cup at Gawler after previously running successive seconds at Mount Gambier.

Tickets Please has the best recorded 512 metre race time of tomorrow’s 24 heat runners.

A best time of 30.18 seconds for Tickets Please over the Millicent Cup distance, suggests Halliday’s dog deserves early favouritism.

The first heat — race six — is arguably the toughest of the three and Tickets Please will need plenty of luck from Box 3.

The first and second placegetters in each heat will advance to the December 13 final, as will the two fastest third placings.

Drawn in the same heat as Tickets Please is Steve Bartholomew’s Poetic Glory, which won back-to-back races at Tara Park in early November.

Poetic Glory has drawn on the immediate inside of Tickets Please and on his inside in Box 1 will be the Michael Cameron trained Camo’s Buster, which won on this track over 512m on November 1.

And another in-form dog, Peppermint Maid will jump from Box 4.

Trained at Kaniva by G. Buttigieg, Peppermint Maid won at Strathalbyn 14 days ago but then put in an ordinary performance to finish seventh on the same track last Sunday.

Edenhope based Captain Abbott will prepare Reelim Trev, which has drawn wide in Box 7 in the opening heat,

Elle’s Billy (Tania Gardiner), Balmoral Jill (Robert Halliday) and Carry On Bond (Tracy Price) are all recent winners that have drawn the second heat, while Ella Rule (Robert Halliday), Bodywave (Peter Whitehead), Bailey Hudson (Neville Blackett) and Swarming (Cassandra Billington) are some of the more fancied stand outs from the final heat.
