Vansittart Park’s water irrigation system does not only make the park water smart, but its two rainwater tanks also now boast the colourful artwork of talented local artists.

Decorated with water-themed designs, the North Gambier Football Club painted a priming coat on the tanks, after which a group of Penola Gallery 54 artists, including Mount Gambier TAFE students, applied their skills.

The colourful tanks are the final part of a water smart plan at the park which included the installation of a weather station and automatic irrigation system on the oval to avoid unnecessary watering.

Water from the rainwater tanks is being used in the public toilets and clubrooms and the changes are estimated to save 7.5 megalitres of water a year.
