Burnt carA Millicent woman made a narrow escape from her vehicle before it burst into flames just outside Mount Gambier.

The 42-year-old was travelling to Mount Gambier on Wednesday when her vehicle stalled on Millicent Road, about 100m west of Milton Street.

It is understood the woman switched her fuel supply from LPG to petrol and attempted to start the vehicle when she detected smoke.

She left the car, noticed flames and called the fire brigade.

Two Metropolitan Fire Service crews from Mount Gambier and one Country Fire Service (CFS) crew from Compton attended and extinguished the blaze within minutes of arrival.

However, the car valued at $10,000 was written off.
