Keen interest in Coonawarra Cup

There is every possibility a capacity field will face the start in next week’s $21,500 Coonawarra Cup.
To be held on January 8 at Penola, interest amongst owners and trainers has spiralled considerably and the performance of just seven runners from the 2008 version will almost certainly be bettered.
The increased interest is no small part due to the 100pc boost in prizemoney.
Limestone Coast Racing Authority executive Jim May is currently accepting bookings for two public functions which will coincide with the Coonawarra Cup.
The upmarket Winning Post marquee offers a meal, drinks, venue admission and a complimentary racebook at a cost of $110 per person, whilst — in a much quieter location — the Mounting Yard marquee will offer a fully serviced tote outlet, bookmaker facilities and toilets.
Mounting Yard marquee cost has been set at $40 and will include race admission, four drinks and a reserved table.
Final fields, expert selections and a four page lift out for the Coonawarra Cup will appear next week in The Border Watch.
