Dog owners reminded of obligations

The Mount Gambier City Council has in the past few months followed up on at least 700 dog owners to check if their dogs have been registered.
Council started a campaign in October last year to crackdown on “several hundred” dog owners who have registered their dogs in recent years, but failed to do so last year.
“No fines have been issued so far and we are being reasonably fair about the process,” Cr Eugene Coscarelli said.
“Dog owners have been given a courtesy call and reminded about their dog registration obligations.”
Dog registrations were due to be paid by the end of August for the period from July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
Owners of unregistered dogs are facing a late fee and the possibility of an on the spot fine.
Cr Coscarelli said the latest statistics on dog registrations will be released in the near future.
