Angel flight

Baby Ezekiel Coutts and his mother Venita were flown to Adelaide on Wednesday morning by Angel Flight pilot Mark Forster. They were farewelled by Ezekial’s father Allan Coutts.

The Angel Flight charity touched Mount Gambier this week when baby battler Ezekiel Coutts and his mum Venita were flown to a medical appointment in Adelaide on Wednesday.

Ezekiel, who is 12 weeks old, was born with the rare polycysitc kidney disease and has intermittent appointments with a specialist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

About one case of the disease is documented in Adelaide every four years.
Ezekiel was five weeks premature when he was delivered by caesarean section on February 2, due to complications including a collapsed right lung.

Ms Coutts said a scan during her pregnancy showed something was amiss and health professionals thought Ezekiel would either not survive the birth or need constant dialysis.

He was kept in hospital for six weeks after he was born.

“At the moment he is doing really well on his medication, which we have to give him four times every day,” Mrs Coutts said.

“Down the track he may need dialysis or a transplant, but right now we are just praying for the best.”

Mrs Coutts said during this consultation at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital she expected to find out how often Ezekiel would need to be assessed and Angel Flight had made this easier for her and Ezekiel’s father Allan to cope.

Angel Flight is a charity specifically formed to fly sick children from the country to the city for medical appointments.

Mrs Coutts said she was taken aback by the generosity shown by local pilots and was glad she and her baby could travel to Adelaide quickly and safely.

Ezekiel and Venita were flown by Mount Gambier Angel Flight volunteer pilot Mark Forster who said this was his fourth trip in the past month.

Angel Flight volunteers do a wonderful job and give safe flights for people in need. Without them so many people would not be able to travel for medical appointments.

I wish Venita and Allan Coutts all the very best with baby Ezekiel and our prayers will go out to Venita for strength and to Ezekiel for a strong recovery and healthy life.
