Lighter weight for 2008 Cup winner

Last year’s Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier $25,000 Gold Cup winner, Royal Blevic will carry slightly less weight in tomorrow’s feature event, a factor that has been overlooked in early markets.
Owned and trained at Millicent, Royal Blevic will also have a change of jockey for the prestigious 2400m handicap, which dates back to 1879.
Wayne Hokai has been given the ride on Royal Blevic, replacing last year’s winning rider, Dominic Torneur, who has opted for the ride on the Gordon Richards trained Tradesman’s Choice.
Royal Blevic will carry 53.5kg and jump from barrier eight tomorrow.
In 2008 — in wet conditions — Royal Blevic heaved 54kg from barrier 10 en route to victory, just ahead of the Belinda O’Loughlin trained Solar Reef.
That pair will lock horns again tomorrow with Solar Reef starting from the barrier on Royal Blevic’s immediate inside.
Fifteen horses were among the final acceptances yesterday. leaving Heather Frew’s galloper Frenzilian as the 57kg topweight and Kelmo, trained by Richard Wilson 1kg better off.
