The Bellum Hotel’s Mount Schank lamb burger wowed the judges to win the inaugural South Australian Pub Burger Challenge yesterday.

Nine finalists battled it out at the Adelaide Showgrounds for the AHA and Meat & Livestock Australia award.

Although the competition was tight, chef Adam Hodge from the Bellum Hotel took the honours.

“The Bellum Burger covered everything we were looking for in a burger – excellent presentation, the flavour of the pattie was exceptional and the home-made sourdough bun just finished it off perfectly,” said one of the judges Margie Gregg.

Licensee of the Bellum Hotel, Simon Livingstone, said he was very happy with the win and it was a credit to the hard work and passion of Adam.

“What is so great about this burger, is that it is made from Mount Schank lamb, which is literally a stone’s throw away from our pub. Its great to have our great local produce recognised,” he said.

Bellum Hotel’s winning recipe: 300gm Mount Schank lamb, housemade sourdough bun, rosemary butter, roast tomatoes, grilled pancetta, caramelised onion and goats cheese aioli — $21.90.
