Blood Typing Expo

South East residents will have the chance to find out their blood type at the Centro Shopping Plaza tomorrow.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is launching its Blood Typing Expo with this year’s theme “What type are you?”

Participants will be able to undertake a free, quick and easy fingerprick blood-typing test while learning about 80 years of blood collection services in Australia and how their blood can save the lives of Australians every day.

Mount Gambier deputy mayor Byron Harfield will join a selection of Mount Gambier sporting stars to promote 2009 as the Year of the Blood Donor.

The expo will run from 11.30am to 7pm on Thursday, 10am to 5pm on Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday.

Currently only 3pc of the population donates blood, yet more than 21,000 donations are needed each week in Australia for the treatment of cancer, heart disease, burns and for newborn babies.
