NRM boundaries modified

The boundaries of six of the eight South Australian Natural Resources Management (NRM) regions have changed.

Although these changes are minor in most areas, the changes seek to better align boundaries with local government areas.

NRM Council presiding member Dennis Mutton said the changes promoted a more strategic, collaborative approach to cross-agency planning and decision making.

In the South East the Southern Mallee and Tatiara councils are now entirely within an NRM region.

“Realigning NRM boundaries creates greater consistency between NRM plans and policies, and regionalised targets within South Australia’s strategic plan,” Mr Mutton said.

The boundary changes also streamline the administrative process of collecting NRM levies.

Some council areas will still remain in more than one NRM region where already clearly defined surface water catchments or major drainage programs need to be managed within a single NRM region.
