SES calls for patience

Mount Gambier SES unit manager Wayne Usher has asked people needing assistance to be patient during bad weather due to high demand.
“People may rest assured their call will be placed in a queue and answered as soon as possible,” Mr Usher said.
“Calling individual SES station numbers will not speed up the process and all calls for assistance must be made via the 132 500 number.
“However, if the matter is life threatening Triple Zero should be called.”
Mr Usher said the recent harsh weather served as a timely reminder that people should maintain their property during periods of fine weather in preparation for extreme conditions.
“Historically, the SES responds to a lot of jobs where property damage could have been avoided through some basic routine maintenance,” he said.
“However, the SES is aware that some situations are unavoidable and that the weather is very changeable and potentially hazardous at this time of the year.
“SES volunteers are always prepared and ready to respond to calls for assistance.”
A reminder was issued this week that all calls for SES assistance should be directed to 132 500.
This follows reports the Triple Zero emergency number fielded more than 1000 non-emergency calls in two days this week.
