When Mount Gambier school teacher Connie Nieto answered her phone two weeks ago she never dreamed she would finish the call $25,000 richer, but news that she had won Service to Youth Council’s (SYC) “Stacks of Cash” lottery meant just that.
Connie was contacted by SYC, an organisation that helps homeless young people, in May and bought a ticket in the lottery, not thinking for a moment that she would win.
“When I got the phone call the other week I was so surprised,” she said.
“I bought the ticket several months ago and had forgotten all about it until the phone call came through.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have won. It will make a huge difference and I am planning to spend the money on a family holiday.”
Connie was presented with her prize at Job Prospects, a division of SYC, in Mount Gambier recently.
All proceeds from the lottery support SYC programs.
Each year SYC supports and assists more than 6000 young South Australians, aged 12 – 25, to find safe and appropriate accommodation, to stay in education and to reconnect with family, school, employment and the community.
Job Prospects recently won a new employment services contract and, as a result, opened a new office in Percy Street on July 1.
