The prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded to two of Mount Gambier Rotary Club’s most repected members at the annual change-over dinner last week.
Alan Richardson and Mike Ryan were presented with the fellowship by outgoing president Mary Anne Fenwick in recognition of their contribution to humanitarian and education programs.
Paul Harris was a lawyer from Chicago who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905.
Rotarians often designate a Paul Harris Fellowship as a tribute to a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of the Rotary Foundation.
Mike Ryan, a business development manager for Control Corp, was born and bred in Mount Gambier where he attended Marist Brothers College before pursuing a career in telecommunications.
In Rotary, Mr Ryan has been involved in all committees, been a councillor for exchange students, served as a past president and is currently involved in many projects.
Alan Richardson was originally from Adelaide, but has worked all around Australia on farms and then later as a reporter.
Settling in Mount Gambier in 1999, Alan became the regional program manager of ABC Radio and is regularly heard over the airwaves.
Over the years, Mr Richardson’s involvement with Rotary has seen him take up the position of program coordinator, bulletin editor, director of international committee, member of the Rotary Market committee and president during 2005.
