More honours for Bellum Hotel

Mount Schank’s Bellum Hotel continues to gain recognition in the food industry, having recently been named the state’s most popular pub/bistro in the 2009 Lifestyle Food Channel Awards.

The “I Love Food Awards” received nearly 100,000 votes through the Lifestyle Food Channel website in Australia’s largest peoples’ choice restaurant competition.

Bellum licensee Simon Livingstone said he knew about the Lifestyle awards, but it wasn’t until a customer came in and told him that he had voted for the Bellum that he realised he was in the running.

“A customer made an initial listing and it just went from there,” he said.

“It’s a very big surprise.”

Mr Livingstone, who has spent the past few weeks renovating the bar, said the Bellum now had an opportunity to advertise its signature dish, the Mount Schank lamb burger, and receive exposure through promotional material.

He said state and national awards were great for the business and enabled him to mix with industry leaders.

“When you’ve got a pub in the middle of nowhere, it’s nice to go and see how the other half live,” he said.
