Driver escapes after chase

Mount Gambier police are investigating the identity of a driver who escaped a speedy chase through the city’s residential north-west area in the early hours of Sunday.

Police attempted to pull the vehicle over on Crouch Street North after it was allegedly seen travelling without headlights about 12.20am.

Police said the driver subsequently failed to stop and drove dangerously to escape.

The driver pulled over shortly after the chase started and ran away.

Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the offender.

It is unknown if there were passengers in the vehicle, which has been seized and impounded by police.

Enquiries are continuing.
