Chance to have say on health services

Residents will get the chance to have their say on improving health services in Mount Gambier during a meeting at the Mount Gambier Hospital on Thursday evening (October 29, 2009).
The Mount Gambier and District Health Advisory Council (HAC) will host the meeting as part of its ongoing process to put the community’s views and needs on health issues to the Health Department.
The HAC has since the beginning of the year consulted with a wide range of community groups on health needs in the community, and the meeting will give individuals the opportunity to also voice their views.
HAC chair Grant King said about 60 community groups in various age ranges have been consulted throughout the year.
“This meeting will be held to give individuals who were not part of the community groups which were consulted, a chance to have their say,” he said.
“They will be free to discuss any health issues, air their views or raise concerns at the meeting.”
Issues could include the need for an MRI machine or hydrotherapy pool for Mount Gambier, or suggestions on the improvement of services in the hospital’s emergency ward.
Mr King said the HAC hoped to present the findings of this year’s community consultations to the Health Department before Christmas.
The meeting will be held in hospital’s conference room from 7pm to 8pm.
