Motorbike parking bays discussed
Posted on November 18, 2009, 4:04pm
Mount Gambier City Council has rejected a request by a Commercial Street East business to install a number of motorcycle-only parking bays.
This follows a request by business Bike Bling.
But council will explore the possibility of implementing motorcycle parking bays in other parts of the city.

Our proposal was to take one car park and make it into three bike parks.
It was only our intention to cut down on bikes visiting our store using 1 bike per car park, therefor freeing up more parking spaces for other businesses either side of us, with the support of surrounding businesses. Making parks else where within the city makes this defeat the purpose of the proposed bike parking. We have had bikes park on foot paths at times due to the lack of parking on the main street, which then causes problems for the pedestrians. We will be looking at appealing this decision with council as we were told several weeks ago that it was all passed and signs were to go up prior to christmas. So please if you pass our store and can’t get a park due to one bike filling one car space know we did what we could to prevent this from occuring.
Genelle — I’m not a bike rider, but this is beyond a joke and typical of a council interested in only one thing.. Killing off the town.. Common sense has obviously left the building!
Parking in that whole area is a joke and an eyesore.. I have a photo of a car half parked on the footpath ’cause they couldn’t get it in properly. It’s about time Council stopped rejecting applications and start acting PROACTIVELY to prevent the need for such applications.
All the best with your appeal!
