Hair loss inspires sacrifice

The tale of a young girl who suffers from a hair loss disease inspired a Suttontown student to lose her locks for charity.
Year 5 student Shanen Pulkkinen (pictured) bravely fronted up in front of the whole school at lunch time on Thursday to take her hair from waist length to just below her ears to support the Alopecia Foundation.
Shanen has been contemplating losing her long hair for a cause for a while, but it was a story she read a few weeks ago about a young girl who suffers from Alopecia that prompted her to make it happen.
With little time to spare, Shanen set about fundraising and over the past three weeks it is believed she has raised more than $500.
Shanen said her hair, which she has been growing since she started school, was starting to get in the way and she knew she needed a change.
Classmates instantly took to Shanen’s new look, although some were unsure about holding her old hair.
