Explore GP access to hospital: Redmond

Opposition leader Isobel Redmond claims broader access for general practitioners to Mount Gambier Hospital should be explored.
This follows Ms Redmond meeting surgeons yesterday and touring the hospital.
She said accessibility for GPs into the hospital was limited to paediatrics and doctors who delivered babies.
While the hospital was exploring adding palliative care to the list, she said GPs should have greater access.
She said the GPs had direct access to the private hospital, which had a “very high occupancy rate”.
Meanwhile, Ms Redmond said she raised the issue of an intensive care unit at Mount Gambier Hospital.
“This was an issue that has been raised during my visit,” Ms Redmond said.
But she said hospital executives argued that it would be expensive and the city was unlikely to receive such a unit.
Ms Redmond said the hospital’s high dependency unit undertook a similar role and critical patients were flown to Adelaide.
