Tourism manager moves to new role

The region’s tourism manager is moving on after two and a half years at the helm of Limestone Coast Tourism.
Biddie Tietz took on the role after her predecessor Peter Abbott relocated to Warrnambool.
She will end her employment with the organisation on Friday to take up the senior brand manager position with De Bruin Group in Mount Gambier.
Ms Tietz reflected on her role this week, telling The Border Watch she was proud of her work forging relationships between organisations and community groups as diverse as the Limestone Coast Food Group, Coonawarra Vignerons Association, Department of Environment and Heritage and town tourism associations.
She said work needed to continue to help expose operators to markets overseas and domestically to build visitor numbers.
“Emergence of Asian markets is the one to watch — certainly China and India — Asian figures internationally are on the move in the right direction,” she said.
Ms Tietz said she had worked closely with the Singapore market as the relatively short flights to Adelaide provided the opportunity to bring visitors either via the touring route to Melbourne or shorter South Australian journeys taking in the coast, lakes, Coonawarra and other attractions.
Limestone Coast Tourism chairman Steve Bourne said Ms Tietz had brought a high level of experience of branding and marketing to the role and helped raise the region’s profile.
“She has left us with great contacts in the media industry and a strong brand for the region that people are really aware of in Melbourne, Sydney, Singapore and New Zealand,” Mr Bourne said.
He said he hoped Ms Tietz could be replaced with someone who had strong local links to work with “grassroots tourism”.
“It is no secret the global financial crisis has put real pressure on industry and the need to have a united front is one of the challenges into the future,” he said.
Limestone Coast regional tourism coordinator Catherine McDonald will fill Ms Tietz’ role in an acting capacity until a permanent manager is appointed.
