Green light for serviced apartments

Mount Gambier City Council planning assessors have given the green light for the old hospital to be redeveloped into serviced apartments.

Council’s Development Assessment Panel approved the variation application at its meeting last week.

While the development will be the first metropolitan multi-storey style service apartment complex for the Blue Lake City, several conditions were attached to the approval.

These included the use of the property not to create a nuisance or disturbance to nearby residents, the balcony areas of the multi-storey building should not be used for drying clothes, landscaping must be undertaken and noise be limited at night.

The application was lodged by Sky Towers Mount Gambier Pty Ltd, which has already gained approval to undertake demolition works on the site, as well as planning approval for a retirement estate and another multi-storey tower.

The old Mount Gambier Hospital has been sitting derelict for more than 10 years.
