Portland air service confirmed

Regional carrier Sharp Airlines has no plans to operate in Mount Gambier, despite cementing its Avalon-Portland-Adelaide route.
Mount Gambier Airport is now serviced only by Regional Express, following the collapse of O’Connor Airlines in 2007.
Speaking to The Border Watch yesterday, Sharp Airlines South Australian manager Dallas Hay said the company was concentrating on routes where there was only one operator.
“We do not have any plans to move into Mount Gambier, we are concentrating on locking down and consolidating our services to Adelaide,” Mr Hay said.
While plans within the aviation industry were constantly evolving, he said the company did not propose to make Mount Gambier a regular part of their route.
Mr Hay said history had shown it was difficult to operate where there were two providers for one route in regional areas.
Sharp Airlines announced this week that its Avalon-Portland-Adelaide service will become permanent from January 4, 2010.
