A new privately owned doctors surgery will open in Mount Gambier on January 4.

At least three full-time resident GPs will offer their services from premises in Collins Court, an established shopping complex on Jubilee Highway near the Suttontown Road intersection, but the potential exists for a fourth GP to join the practice later.

A pharmacy will also open next to the surgery.

Ibrahim Hanna, an experienced pharmacist from Adelaide who initiated the concept, will own and manage the pharmacy.

Mr Hanna told The Border Watch that he had recruited the GPs from Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Two GPs will kick off the practice on January 4, while negotiations are ongoing for one or two more to join the team towards mid-January.

The clinic will employ at least two receptionists and a nurse. The positions will be advertised soon, while two or three employees will be trained for the pharmacy.
