Skate school at Tarpeena

Posted on December 1, 2009, 10:10am

Budding freestyle athletes are being given the opportunity to develop skills to use Tarpeena’s newly constructed skate park thanks to a specialised two-day coaching program.

The Tarpeena Skate Park Committee, Community Benefits SA, District Council of Grant and Skateboarding Australia have banded together to present the StreetWise skateboarding clinics as part of the new facility’s three-day launch this weekend.

Held on Saturday and Sunday (December 5 – 6, 2009), the free, four-hour program will see experienced freestyle athletes group participants into skill levels to allow for fun and effective coaching.

Participants are required to wear a helmet at all times and will have the opportunity to win various prize packs.

Each StreetWise participant will also receive a 2009 membership with Skateboarding Australia, personal accident insurance coverage, copies of Slam skateboarding and Mania magazines, StreetWise products and a DVD.

While priority will be given to Tarpeena residents, anyone is welcome to register before 5pm on Thursday, with the successful applicants being notified on Friday.

Registrations can be made at the Tarpeena Rural Transaction Centre, Tarpeena Primary School, the District Council of Grant Mount Gambier office or by calling 8721 0444.

A copy of the registration form is available on the website at www.dcgrant.sa.gov.au and can be dropped into the office or faxed to 8721 0410.

Well done to the Grant District Council.

If only OTHERS would give their youths and their skate park the same kind of decent consideration!
