Gilbert Wilson from Portland has been elected mayor of the Glenelg Shire Council for 2010.
Cr Wilson said he looked forward to building on the work of his predecessor, Cr Geoff White, and building on his own experience gained during his time as mayor in 2007.
“I look forward to continuing on the good work of Cr White in fostering strong relationships with Federal and State Government as well as our neighbouring municipalities,” he said.
“During my term as mayor I intend to have a strong focus on building relationships with our shire communities and I look forward to travelling throughout our large municipality connecting with our citizens and especially our indigenous community.”
Cr White said he would also focus on adoption of the Glenelg environment strategy, which would ensure future protection and enhancement of natural assets that sustained the shire’s communities.
“I am also looking forward to supporting business throughout the shire and establishing a new Youth Advisory Council which will provide our young people with the opportunity to express their concerns, raise issues and gain valuable skills and experience in leadership and governance,” he said.
