Parental responsibility

Along Canavan Road on Tuesday night around 10pm my son and I came across two young girls of about 10 to 12 years of age standing on the side of the road.
As we neared them they leaned over and asked if we wanted some “candy cane”.
It was a hot night and one of the girls had very short shorts on.
Although they did have the Christmas lolly of that name in their hands, I couldn’t get it out of my head all that night how very dangerous that was.
My son’s car is so obviously a young man’s car.
What would have happened if it was a car load of young men, or worse still a paedophile?
The girls had leaned right over as we had stopped to give way to traffic to ask us if we wanted some. They easily could have been grabbed and shoved in the car.
I wonder where the parents were? Did they know and give permission for these young girls to be standing on the streets, dressed as they were, offering “candy cane” for Christmas to complete strangers?
