Macquarie backs proposed wind farm

Robe Wind Pty Ltd announced yesterday it has reached an agreement with Macquarie Capital Group Limited for the development of a wind farm along the Woakwine range between Beachport and Mount Benson.
Macquarie will be responsible for all of the ongoing development activities for the proposed wind farm.
The signing of the development and land agreements with Robe Wind and the landowners represents an important milestone in the delivery of this large-scale wind farm development, and will enable the progression of development activities on site.
“This is a significant opportunity for the local community and South Australia’s renewable energy sector,” Robe Wind chairman Michael McCourt said.
The proposed site is sufficient to accommodate a wind farm of about 600MW of installed capacity, capable of generating sufficient energy to power about 260,000 homes.
It will result in a reduction of about 2.1m tonnes per annum of greenhouse gas emissions.
“This is a project that will deliver jobs, large-scale regional investment and importantly a significant amount of clean, renewable energy,” Mr McCourt said.
“This is the largest wind energy project under development in South Australia and among the largest in Australia.”
Robe Wind is a company wholly owned by the landowners upon whose land the proposed wind farm is to be built and represents the contact point between the landowners and Macquarie.
“We would like to thank the landowners and Macquarie for their collaborative work and assistance in finalising the land agreements, which provide a significant step in the development of the project,” Mr McCourt said.
“We would also like to thank the landowners for assisting with the extensive investigations that have been carried out across the site.
“We look forward to bringing the benefits of this project to them, the local community and the people of South Australia.”
Mr McCourt said the project was expected to receive strong support from the local community, with ongoing community consultation to be undertaken throughout the development process.
He said development activities were set to continue, with further technical and environmental assessments.

What a delightful change to hear it from the real people instead of some politician sticking his face into the picture to claim credit.
Here’s Cheers for progressive farmers working together. Good on you Robe Wind!
Government role is not to do it but to allow others to do it by removing the political and bureaucratic impediments that are created as ego food.. This Government has replaced its responsibility to the community with that to its own self. The present ruling junta have done less and less for the state over the past 7 years until there is now no money to do anything.. They cannot even rein in over $174 million from over 500,000 unpaid fines or do something useful like building the infrastructure and the rolling stock at Tonsley for a world class high speed integrated electric rail transport system combined with the unique opportunity to teach a huge range of practical engineering skills as a TAFE. After all, the plant is intact and it cost the same amount as 5 second hand trams. Twice that amount was spent with public money acquire the Clipsal property,“for Tuscany boutiques and concrete gardens” and it sits idle while doing some secret deal with developers.
