Christmas came early for the Mount Gambier Hospital this week with the donation of three state-of-the-art electric beds from money raised by the Big Night Out held at the Barn in July.
The fundraising event was sponsored by the family of the late Allan Scott.
The Barn Big Band fundraising committee comprising Dale Cleves, Denis McNamee and Jim Kirkup has raised $77,000 over the past four years for the Cancer Council, Boandik Lodge and Mount Gambier Hospital.
The presentation of three electric beds yesterday will add to the six beds donated in 2008, which will be used in the surgical and general wards.
Attending the presentation yesterday were family members of the late Allan Scott, Zena Winser and Ray Scott, who also announced a major fundraising initiative for the Limestone Coast Paediatric Services based at Mount Gambier Hospital.
The Scott Group of Companies and K&S Freighters, along with Carlin and Gazzard and Mitsubishi Motors, have donated a Mitsubishi Lancer RX to be raffled over the next six months.
The funds raised will purchase a cardiovascular ultrasound system to be used in the hospital’s paediatric department and will add to the diagnostic tools available to treat children locally.
The lucky winner of the car will be announced at the 2010 Big Night Out at The Barn on Saturday,
July 31.
Hospital acting director Sandra Parsons urged people to get behind and support the car raffle and thanked the Big Night Out Committee and the family of the late Allan Scott for their continued support.
“Without this generous support the hospital would not be able to provide this equipment that benefits staff, patients and the whole community,” Ms Parsons said.
Meanwhile, Barn Big Band spokesperson Jim Kirkup said the car raffle would purchase much-needed equipment for children in the South East and would stop the need for families to travel long distances.
Tickets for the car raffle will be sold throughout the region.
