Regarding the "City's iconic vision" someone in council needs to go see an optometrist!
In comparing the rail lands to Darling Harbour and Federation Square someone has let their imagination run a little bit wild.
On the front page (The Border Watch, July 22), CEO Greg Muller was quoted as "hoping" four times. Well, to put infrastructure like this development in place calls for a bit more than "hope". By the looks of this development it's going to need a miracle.
When I first saw the drawing on the front page, I thought the Year 3 students at Mac Park Primary had run a competition and the winning entry was on display.
Anyone can draw a pretty picture, but the big question is: where's the money?
Instead of the latest development plan, this should be called: Mount Gambier City Council's "pie in the sky" development plan, as they have no idea what to do with the land and are sick of being criticised for doing nothing, so they submit this ridiculous plan to buy them more time, and then give an unbelievable timeframe of 2015. Who voted for these people?
A real development plan is more than drawing randomly placed boxes on a drawing and writing "retail" or "hotel" on them and then hoping someone will build them, and as for the new graffiti and vandal zone otherwise known as "Cultural Park", of course every ratepayer in Mount Gambier is dying to fund the weekly cleanup of this part of town.
