Gas leak number advised

Limestone Coast residents have been urged to immediately call for assistance if they suspect a gas leak in their home.

Transport, Energy and Infrastructure Department technical regulator Rob Faunt said residents should not hesitate in calling the toll free number.

“If you smell gas inside or outside of your property, report it immediately on 1800 808 526,” he said.

Mr Faunt said advice would then be provided on the appropriate action.

“Make sure you follow up on any action taken, do not simply accept and forget,” he said.

If a gas leak is suspected, avoid using flammable liquids and lighters until appropriate authorities have investigated and cleared the site of any potential dangers.

The emergency toll free 24-hour number is also located on every retailer’s gas bill.
