A 48-year-old Naracoorte man charged with possessing child pornography has had his case adjourned while police review “well in excess of a million images”.

The man, whose name is subject to a suppression order, appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today for declarations to be filed.

However police prosecutor Senior Constable Sam Mattila requested a two month adjournment on behalf of the Australian Federal Police so further declarations could be filed.

“It’s estimated that there’s well in excess of a million images that need to be reviewed,” Senior Constable Mattila said.

“There’s some degree of images that the defendant claims are innocent material and do not portray child pornography.”

Defence counsel Tony Pasin said a number of computers were seized and hundreds of discs and his client had no recollection of what specifically was on the discs or the computer hard drives.

Magistrate Bill Morris adjourned the hearing until October 20 for further declarations to be lodged and November 17 for the defendant to answer the charge.
