Blockbuster movies with endless car chases, sirens and screeching tyres in which over ambitious cops prove their boss wrong and bring in the bad guys, are not everyone’s cup of tea.
Some of us enjoy sipping on a glass of wine and socialising with friends over a few nibbles in the ambience of a historical theatre before sitting back to be taken away and inspired by a slow art-house or foreign film.
For those who fall into this category, a group of volunteers who have been regularly screening some great foreign movies at the Wehl Street Theatre, have recently established an official film society in Mount Gambier.
After going strong for some time and gaining public support, Reels@Wehl registered as a film society to have greater access to more films and to bring these movies to Mount Gambier at a more affordable price.
To qualify for a film society Reels@Wehl must be membership based and various membership packages are on offer.
Members who, for instance, opt for 10 tickets pay $70, while members who choose to pay for five films, pay $40.
Reels@Wehl Film Society explains how their membership works on their blog, along with the benefits in becoming a member.
Some of the movies they will screen in the near future are also listed with short descriptions of each movie.
The blog also has links to various movie and entertainment related websites including the the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, Oatmill Cinema, Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Awards.
Visitors can also find a recipe for glogg wine, which was recently served at the screening of one of their recent movies.
Visit Reels@Wehl Film Society on reelsatwehl.blogspot.com/ to see if there is a movie you would like to watch, or make a suggestion.
