Hybrid Energy Australia is seeking community members to serve on a consultation group.

The company’s FuturGas Project aims to develop part of the Kingston coal resource.

From 2008 to 2011 the University of Adelaide and other specialist consultants will contribute to a comprehensive feasibility study.

Meanwhile, a community consultation group will be established comprising an independent chairman, independent facilitator and four local community representatives.

The community representatives will provide advice to Hybrid Energy Australia in planning for the company’s FuturGas Project, identifying local issues and viewpoints, and helping gather local knowledge for project planning studies.

“Hybrid Energy Australia recognises and supports the community’s right to be consulted,” the company’s managing director Barry Ford said.

QED Pty Ltd, a South Australian based consulting firm specialising in a range of project areas including planning and the environment, has been appointed as the independent facilitator.

QED will coordinate all meeting arrangements including documenting and monitoring issues raised by the FuturGas consultation group.

Minutes of the group’s meetings will be made available online at the company’s website, which has a page specifically designed to distribute news to the community.

Limestone Coast Regional Development Board chief executive Grant King has been appointed the independent chair.

“I am pleased to support this process as chair of the FuturGas community consultation group which will assist in identifying the regional issues,” Mr King said.

The two company representatives will be the managing director Mr Ford and communications manager Rachael Galwey.

The consultation group will meet on a quarterly basis in Kingston for an initial period of 12 to 18 months, with the first meeting planned for October 2008.

The company also plans to hold its first community information day in November.

Hybrid Energy Australia will also attend the South Eastern Field Days at Lucindale next year to meet any community members unable to attend the information day at Kingston.
