East Gambier and West Gambier have reappointed their current senior coaches for the 2009 Western Border season.

Bulldogs president Steve Van Schaik announced yesterday that first year coach Jason Dawe had been offered another term, while West Gambier president Graham Gill confirmed that Ashleigh Brown would lead the Kangaroos for a third consecutive term.

Dawe replaced Simon Quinn as East Gambier coach this season and although hampered by a shoulder injury that has restricted his game time, he currently has his team in fourth place on the premiership ladder with 11 wins and six losses.

Tomorrow the Bulldogs play away to the second placed Imperials and must win to remain in the finals.
A loss to Imperials and East Gambier will almost certainly be leapfrogged by South Gambier (v Heywood) and North Gambier (v West Gambier).

Mr Van Schaik said his board of directors were extremely pleased with Dawe’s performance this season and the future of the club looked exciting.

“Depending on the senior result tomorrow, we will have all three Western Border teams in the finals and this Sunday we have both our under 16 and rnder 14 teams contesting grand finals,” he said.

“I would like to think our future is based around our exciting crop of juniors and I’m confident that Jason (Dawe) is the man to lead us into the next stage of our development.”

West Gambier suffered a horrendous run of injuries to key players this season, a fact acknowledged br Mr Gill and the West Gambier directors in re-appointing Brown for a third season.

West failed to win a game in 2007 in Brown’s first year, but showed marked improvement this season, particularly early on when the Kangaroos headed the ladder after the first three rounds.
