Cancer Council welcomes transport pledge

THE Cancer Council SA has welcomed the Liberal Party’s commitment to contribute an additional $4m over four years to support the Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS).

Union backs MacKillop independent

Paper workers have voted to back independent Darren O’Halloran in the electorate of MacKillop to highlight the hundreds of local manufacturing jobs put at risk after the Federal Government allowed foreign-made toilet paper to be dumped in Australia.
The Millicent sub-branch of the CFMEU Pulp and Paper Division this week agreed to provide financial and practical support for Mr O’Halloran’s campaign. Read more
Pegler calls for seven-day fire service

Independent candidate for Mount Gambier Don Pegler has vowed to fight for the city’s Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) to be staffed seven days a week.
Mr Pegler said the Mount Gambier MFS was one of the busiest stations in South Australia and warranted similar staffing levels as Adelaide. Read more
Redmond flags talks with independents

A leading political analyst claimed yesterday the outcome of the state election in the seat of Mount Gambier was “too hard to call” and foreshadowed the major parties could have to strike deals with independents to form government.
Associate Professor Clement Macintyre, from the University of Adelaide, said polls showing a swing to the Liberal Party in Adelaide indicated there was a looming scenario of a possible cliffhanger. Read more

Liberals pledge cash for travel scheme

The Liberal Party has pledged an additional $4 million over four years to the South Australian Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) if it wins the March 20 election.
The PATS program makes specialist medical services more accessible to rural South Australians by assisting with the cost of transport and accommodation expenses when travelling more than 100km (one way) to the nearest medical specialist. Read more
