Messiah coming to Mount Gambier

Melbourne’s Heidelberg Choral Society is taking Handel’s Messiah on the road for the first time in the choir’s 88-year history.

Mount Gambier’s St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church is on the schedule for the regional tour of Victoria and South Australia, with the sounds of the choir and Amadeus Chamber Orchestra to reverberate through the majestic building next week. Read more

Hercules in NY playing at Millicent

Dance-pop-electro outfit Hercules in NY are travelling to Millicent this weekend to play on Saturday (November 22) at the Civic and Arts Centre with Behind Crimson Eyes.

Following the release of the band’s debut AA single in April some of Hercules in NY’s highlights have been national and community radio play, feature artist in jmag (September) and Triple J unearthed (June), playing at Bass in the Grass (Darwin) and Groovin The Moo (Maitland, NSW) festivals, and sharing the stage with Australian acts Little Red, The Potbelleez and The Custom Kings.

Brass Band Festival this weekend

Brass bands from across Victoria and South Australia will converge on Mount Gambier this weekend for an annual competition to coincide with the city’s Christmas parade.

This year’s 2008 Brass Band Festival, supported by the Lions Club of Mount Gambier, will be boosted with a visit by the Salvation Army Veterans’ Band from Melbourne to celebrate 125 years of the organisation’s involvement in the South East. Read more

Unchartered rocks to victory

Mount Gambier band Unchartered rocked their way to victory in the Mount Gambier Battle of the Bands on Sunday in the group’s first live performance.

Cellist breaks with convention

The Riddoch Art Gallery will host “The Unconventional Cellist” on Thursday night as Kristin Rule performs with her semi-acoustic viola “Little Axe” and semi-acoustic cello “Pierre”.

Pursuing her desire to travel and share her music, Kristen brought a motorcycle and set off for a 23-week Australian tour on her Suzuki SV1000, using an RAP solar system to power her instruments. Read more
