Biomineral fertiliser plant proposed

A South Australian based organic fertiliser company is seeking interest in forming a farmer-based cooperative to build a $5m manufacturing plant in the Mount Gambier region.
Geomite Pty Ltd chief executive Barry Hayes told The Border Watch the company was exploring setting up a farmer-based cooperative in Mount Gambier because of its proximity to Victoria and expansive farming districts. Read more

The Advisory Board of Agriculture has developed a new simple tool for grain growers to work out their cost of production and profitability on farm.
The electronic spreadsheet enables farmers to enter their cost of production figures and calculate automatically their target net farm gate price. Read more
Big crowds expected for Show

Prodding diminishes meat quality

Cattle subjected to electrical prodding stimulation just before slaughter can produce meat with inferior quality.
The finding came from an experiment conducted by the Beef CRC which looked at the effect on beef eating quality. Read more

Farm property sells for $1.6m

The Kybybolite property, Kiara ,of 855 acres was sold at auction on Thursday for $1.6 million under the hammer to an undisclosed bidder.
There was a small portion of scrub on Kiara, so agents said the price equated to approximately $2000 per usable acre. Read more
